In a place so rich in inspiration and beauty, the presence of religious phenomena of a certain extent can't surprise and find their climax in places such as San Giovanni Rotondo, where the famous Saint Pio di Pietralcina lived. A land of faith, crossed for centuries by the Via Sacra Longobardorum, crossed by the Crusaders to get to the Holy Land, from this strip of land stretched out towards the Mediterranean from the fifth century after Christ, the cult of Saint Michael spread throughout Christian Europe and in fact, in addition to the pretty town that dominates the Gargano, Monte Sant'Angelo, one of the sacred places of Christianity for the apparitions of Saint Michael, about ten kilometers from the Mycaelic center, there is also the Abbey of Pulsano, also ancient sanctuary of the end of the sixth century.
From a geographical point of view, while the territory of Puglia is generally flat, or at least, most of reliefs are of a low altitude, the "Spur of Italy" is a real mountain, "the exception that confirms the rule" in the natural landscape of the region. Originally, the Gargano was an island: only after a constant accumulation over time of material reported by the Candelaro torrent, going to form alluvial deposits, the peninsula was then created. Characterized by the white color, the Gargano is a limestone mountain whose top reaches 1056 meters above sea level, on the summit of Monte Calvo, where there is no vegetation.
This characteristic peak still preserves interesting testimonies of ancient settlements: in fact there are many caves that were inhabited in prehistoric times.
